Florentine Picture set

$62.00

The Florentine set depicts women dressed in 1850s attire, enjoying the outside. Sloping shoulders, a small waist, and a wide domed skirt was popular fashion at the time. Dresses were usually two separate pieces consisting of the skirt and the bodice or jacket. Shawls were popular for outerwear options. Bonnets were still standard headwear for leaving the house, having shorter brims and worn higher up out of your face.

The frames are made of plaster of Paris, they are not wood and can not be opened from the back. The image has been set into the frame and is not removable. Plaster of Paris is a quick setting gypsum plaster which hardens when moistened and then dried. Known of and used since the ancient times, its name was given because of the abundant gypsum found near Paris.

This is a found object. The dimensions of the frames are 6 1/2 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 1 inch deep.

Each frame has a small hoop molded in the frame for hanging. Both pictures are in very good condition, they each have a few small chips of paint on the gold frame portion. The pictures have no cracks or chips.
